SERVICE TO NEIGHBOR

Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.

- 1 John 3:18

Emmanuel partners with many groups and individuals to help make our community and world a more equitable, just, and caring place. A selection are noted below.

Each year 5% of our Endowment is distributed to local, regional, and national/international charities nominated by our members. Since our first disbursement in 2007 and through 2023, more than $400,000 has been provided to more than 75 different organizations.

  • piecemakers quilting

Piecemakers are a dedicated group of quilters who meet in the fellowship room at Emmanuel on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 9 am to 12 pm to create mission quilts for Lutheran World Relief (LWR). Established in the 1980’s, they have created hundreds of quilts each year. The quilting group includes members of all ages and skill levels, from experienced quilters to beginners. Together with the LWR group, Piecemakers also create health kits, baby kits, and school kits, to distribute to people in need worldwide.

Twice a year, completed quilts and kits are collected at designated locations across the U.S. and transported to LWR warehouses for storage until needed for disaster response.

In 2023, Emmanuel Piecemakers’ quilts and kits were shipped to many countries including Tanzania, Liberia, and Ukraine.

You can support Piecemakers in many ways, even if you are not able to attend meetings. We gratefully accept cotton material to create more quilts, new or unused sheets for backings, Thrivent dollars for filler and more! If you’d like to sew quilts at home, we have kits and instructions available.

If you're interested in joining or supporting the Piecemakers, you can contact the church office for more details.

  • LWR KITS

Emmanuel collects for LWR Personal Care, Baby Care, and School Kits throughout the summer months. You can find a list of items to donate HERE. LWR Kits are specifically designed to help people coping with poverty, disaster, conflict and more. Whether a kit helps someone to maintain good hygiene, care well for a newborn baby, keep education going during a crisis or learn a new vocation, LWR Kits provide dignity and hope in the direst situations.

  • FAMILY PROMISE OF THE PALOUSE

Family Promise of the Palouse works to empower families with children experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence for a more promising future. • MOSCOW FOOD BANK

The Moscow Food Bank has been open to all in need since 1981. It is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, 100% volunteer-operated, and receives the entirety of its support from the generosity of the private citizens of the Moscow-Pullman community. Emmanuel has two food collection bins outside the north (top side) entrance doors. In addition to donations to the Moscow food bank, we hope to soon have our own little free panty with basic staples for community members in need.
